How to choose a plan

Make a list of the doctors, hospitals and other providers you use now and want to keep on using.

Call them, and ask which Medicaid plans they work with.

If you need more information, call HealthColorado. We can help you.

Important information about health plans.

√ You can call your health plan 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and talk to someone or leave a message. If you leave a message, someone will call you back.

If you’re in Regular Medicaid, you can call the 24 Hour Nurse Hotline.

√ Do not go to the emergency room unless you have a real emergency, such as a lot of pain or something that you think might be very serious. If you go to the emergency room for something minor, such as a sore throat, you might have to pay.

If you are not sure if it’s a real emergency, and if you have time, call your doctor first.

What is a Medicaid health plan?

A health plan is a way for you to get your Medicaid services. Here are three different plans to choose from:

  1. You can choose a Managed Care Organization (MCO). A MCO is a group of doctors, clinics, hospitals, pharmacies and other providers who work together to give its members health services.

There are three managed care organizations in Colorado.

  1. You can choose the Primary Care Physician Program (PCPP). In the PCPP, you choose one doctor to manage all of your health care and help you find other Medicaid providers when you need them.
  2. You can choose Regular Medicaid, sometimes called basic Medicaid. In Regular Medicaid members can go to any doctor, clinic, hospital, pharmacy or other provider who takes Medicaid.
